The results of the last ten years efforts of our group (and others) to extract information about the N-electron wavefunction in crystalline solids from a number of X-ray and neutron scattering experiments will be presented. We will show that in most cases, the heart of quantum chemistry resides in the One particle Reduced Density matrix. Possible routes to reconstructing this object from a set of different experiments will be explained.
To conclude, this presentation, after a short presentation of Ecole Centrale Paris, I will introduce an original multidisciplinary activity that has been proposed for the last tens years to our students as a global application of their scientific and technical knowledge: the "Synchrotron X-ray Beamline Design" project based course.
